We ordered this for my daughter's apartment at college and she and her sister assembled it. It was their first real attempt to assemble something like this and they did a great job!

It Serves Its Purpose

I originally wanted another bookcase, however I didn't want to pay the steep price for it. I set out looking for other options and found the South Shore Collection. As other reviewers have mentioned, a few of the pieces were dented/chipped even though it was thoroughly packaged. I assume those pieces were damaged before being packaged. The larger pieces, mainly the two sides and the shelves themselves are heavy. It took two people and a couple of hours to put it together. I would say when assembling the pieces labeled "F," which are the boxes that have a back, DO NOT push the screw "thingy" into the hole a lot. I did that and it left small spaces in those areas. Once it was assembled, it looked great. But I did notice a large chip on my third shelf in the corner. I was very disappointed about that, but with ALL the work that went into putting it together I don't know if it's worth returning.

Good

I would rate it really high but product came with few little defects which I could not hide (I tried and probably did hide few). Some panels came with small defects - two scratches and two bumps, and one bump I could not hide - it is right in the middle of the top shelve. Other than that, product is really good, looks great and I hope will serve well for years to come. Assembly was OK, I did it by myself in 90 minutes. The only problem I found was putting together pieces with plastic parts which normally wood. To get both parts together I had to use my hand and hit hard to get it in place. I could not use hammer as it would damage panels. Other than that it is OK. I am also thinking to replace wall mount which prevent flipping over as unit is really heavy and should be secured by solid pieces, not the one provided with kit. But again overall product is good.

Too Complicated to assemble

Minimum 6 hours to put everything together, poor instructions to connect the dots, sorry!

looks good for price

For the most part I really like this shelf. Except one of the piece came completely cracked. If it wasn't so heavy, I would have just taken it back. But since I put the shelf on the corner, you really can't see it so I just avoided the trouble and kept it. The shelves are bigger then I expected which is nice because I used it for my daughter's toys. It is also very heavy, I had a very hard time taking it inside from my doorstep.
