Proceed at your own risk!
Words fail me when I think of these bookcases, but chintzy, cheesy, and cheep all come close.Yes the bookcases are made of real wood, but it splinters easily and the finish is somewhat shipshod.The hardware that comes with it is the real problem. The wood screws have soft hex heads and the allen key that comes with wobbles in the hole, so it's impossible to get the screw into the hard wood before you ruin the screw head. My husband is Jack-of-all-Tools, so came up with a way to use his electric drill to drive the screws, otherwise we'd never have gotten the beasts together. As it was, we badly splintered two of the shelves and had to glue pieces back on.Oh, I bought two, and in both the hardware bag was broken open with screws and wood plugs everywhere.If you're intrepid enough to tackle building these bookcases, throw away the hardware that comes with them, march yourself down to the hardware store, and buy real wood screws and a decent drill or electric screwdriver to go with.Once you get 'em all put together, they don't look half bad -- from a distance!

Not Too Bad For The Price
I dont care how you measure it ---it is not 12" deep, it's 11. Otherwise it was easy to put together #I am a woman# Read the instructions and take your time--it was very easy. Just tighten the screws enough to get it to stay and then when everyting is in place then set the screws but dont over tighten them. I had one cross bar that didn't fit, I moved it to another shelf and it fit. Its made ok. I dont think I would put anything really really heavy on it though. I looks good enough for a room/office.
