WARNING - Screws for top moulding are too long
This is a very attractive 2-shelf bookcase but beauty is only skin deep. Beneath the lovely exterior is cheap, and very fragile particle board. Just FYI. The description says "Engineered Wood" - I guess that's what the marketing department calls particle board these days.Also, at least with the two I put together, the three screws provided to attach the top moulding are too long, which is not good because they came all the way through the top which of course ruined the thin "cherry" finish. Grrrrrrrrr. I highly recommend NOT using the provided 1-1/8" pan head wood screws. Use nothing longer than 1" wood screws, and even then you still need to be careful to not penetrate the top.It's the first line on page three of the instructions: "Fasten the TOP MOULDING (C) to the TOP (E). Use three BLACK 1-1/8" PAN HEAD SCREWS (Q).Once it's all together it looks great but in the end it's just cheap particle board. Although it feels sturdy, it's actually quite fragile since the only thing holding it all together are those twisty cam things and dowels in particle board. If you're careful with it, it should be fine, but it isn't anything like a solid wood piece.

This is the second Sauder 2-shelf bookcase I have ordered from Wal-Mart online. I ordered the first one hoping it would be what I wanted and would be as pictured . It was and am looking forward to the second one to complete the console for in my living room. The bookcase was assembled at Wal-Mart at no cost to me. That in itself helped me make my decision to purchase it from Wal-Mart.Grandma
