Not hard to assemble
This book case was for my new office and it looks good and took me and my son-in-law about one and half hour to assemble.

Price goes up and quality goes down...
I bought my first Joffe bookcases in 2001. They were a bargain ($149.00 each for similar product), and the quality was very good. They were pre-drilled and cut in a precise manner that allowed them to be put together quickly and easily. Recently, I have purchased 22 units of this model. None were without some faults, and at least two needed additional drilling, cutting, and repair. Many showed drilled holes that had been filled in after seeing they were at the incorrect location on the wood. Some holes simply were not drilled. Many of the backs were not evenly cut and did not fit neatly onto the cases. Many pieces of wood had splintered and rough edges, and a few pieces had been repaired. Next to the similar model from 15 years ago, these look cheap. With that said, and they were very frustrating and time consuming to build, but they serve their purpose and after a little more effort than anticipated we are satisfied with what we have to show.

Very Poor Quality
I am very disappointed n this product. There was damage on one of the parts that was not freight damage but one of the trim boards was split by a screw that was used to apply the trim to the frame. One of the holes was not lined up for the pegs and when we pushed the pieces together it knocked a piece of the particle board off of the top. The pieces appeared sticky and was due to the finish which came off on our hands when we were putting it together. I wiped the shelving down after we were done and the dust cloth was dark from the stain coming off. The backing was very poor quality. It is definitely not worth the price paid. I was at a furniture store shortly after looking for something else and saw a shelf that was much better quality that was not a put together for similar money. The reason I bought this item from Sams is because I had purchased a previous one there and it is much nicer, much better quality. I guess was expecting the same.

Good value, quallity and service.
One part arrived damaged but a call to the manufacturer and a quick explanation of the damage was all it took to correct the problem. They were most helpful and within a week we had the replacement part. Unit was easy to put together and looks great in our office. We purchased three units, a 3 foot, a four foot and this 6 foot bookcase and all look fantastic. Would definitely purchase again. Construction is much better than many we looked at for double the price. The only negative comment is that the back of the cabinet, which is a wood veneer, has visible lines where it's taped together. However, once books are on the shelf, they are much less noticeable. If there are problems with unit, do not call Sam's. Call the number on the paperwork, which is the manufacturer, they are most cooperative, know what you are talking about and will have parts replaced within a few short days (depending on where you live). Plycraft (is located in CA so it took a little longer to reach the east coast, but it still was only one week. Great service.

Pretty nice piece of furniture, minor problem
I called the problem "minor" because the manaufacturer handled it quickly and efficiently, but it was really pretty major. The center divider has a trim piece on the front edge theat just plain fell off as I took it out of the box. Further examination revealed that the piece is supposed to be held in place by 8-10 staples and glue, but only one or two of the staples actually went into the divider, the rest bent over upon impact and not only did not do their job, but the bent staples prevented the glue from getting a good grip. If I had been in a big hurry this would have really upset me, but I was happy to wait 4 days for the new piece. I think my experience was an anomaly because I have had several other pieces from this same manufacturter with no issues. Overall, I love the bookcase and think it was an excellent value. I would buy another one.Read more
