Sturdy, bigger than expected, and reversible!
We put this together last night, for our kids' computer. Wow! I'm actually really impressed- the instructions weren't great, but since my husband and I are good at building, we got it together quickly. The holes were correctly aligned and drilled, and the components were all well-made. It's sturdy- the main desktop will handle 80 lbs., and each shelf will handle 22 lbs. Since the shelves are as deep as the desktop- around 23"- we were able to locate the tower on the top shelf easily, leaving a ton of room on the desk itself for the monitor, keyboard, etc. We were also delighted to discover that the back support- the X, if you will- can be installed on either side, so you can position this desk with the shelving either on the left OR righthand side- that versatility was a nice surprise. The wood components appear to be engineered wood, but it's some of the best "faux" wood I've ever seen- the texturizing and surface image looks very, very real- well done, Homestar! For the price, you really can't beat this. It looks great in our living room, and ties in well with our vintage-to-mid-century industrial-look furniture. I'd highly recommend this desk- it's a winner! :)
